Heath Aster

Symphyotrichum ericoides (formerly Aster ericoides)

This species is quite variable in appearance, and some plants may be hybrids with other species. Flowers are normally white (sometimes slightly tinted pink or lavender), small (1/2" across), and have 12 petals.  Flowers of some specimens, such as the one here, are very dense and make the plant quite showy.  Leaves, even low on the plant, are small and narrow (3" or less in length, 1/4" wide).

1-3 feet, sun.

Late Summer-Autumn (August-October).

The upper branches have innumerable small leaflets, resembling heather, hence the name.
