Gray-headed Coneflower

Ratibida pinnata           (Yellow Coneflower)

The blossoms appear on long, thin stalks, and begin as grayish "eggs" with only tiny petals, which slowly turn brown, moving up the dome, while the petals grow larger. (Photo at left shows various stages.) Petals are strongly reflexed. Leaves near base of plant are deeply lobed, each lobe long and narrow.

3-5 feet, sun.

Summer (June-September).

From a distance, the long lobes of the leaves look like separate lanceolate leaves.
