Heracleum maximum

Large (8-12 inch) umbels of small white flowers rise on very thick, ridged, fuzzy, hollow stalks of green, sometimes with a purplish cast. Lower leaves are enormous, often almost 2 feet long, divided into 3 large, jagged, pointed lobes. Shoots from stems develop from large, puffy swellings, often purplish.


4-10 feet, partial sun.


Late Spring-Early Summer (May-July).

The blossoms fall to leave clusters of seeds (left side of picture).
