Two-flowered Cynthia

Krigia biflora

From a basal rosette of leaves a smooth stem rises; at some point a fewf clasping, ovate leaves sprout  from the stem, and from the uppermost leaf axil rise two or several stalks, each of which terminates in a single round flower. Each blossom is up to 2 inches across, consisting entirely of yellow-orange ray florets (photo below is more accurate rendering of color). The basal leaves, up to 6 inches long, are smooth but somewhat variable in shape; usually ovate, but sometimes toothed, wavy-edged, or even pinnate.
