Early Goldenrod

Solidago juncea

The first goldenrod to bloom each season, this species has rather symmetrical clusters of florets of up to a dozen rays. The upper leaves are smooth, narrow and smooth-edged; clusters of small leaflets sprout from the axils of the upper leaves (see image below). Stems are smooth. Lower leaves are larger and toothed.


2-4 feet, sun or partial sun.


Summer (July-September).

Note the small leaflets growing in the axils of upper leaves.
