Seaside Goldenrod

Solidago sempervirens

This species sometimes forms a showy, nodding, clublike flowering head with florets packed tightly together (7-10 rays per floret). Most distinctive are the leaves, which spring alternately from the smooth stem.  They are very long (up to 10 inches) and narrow, smooth, untoothed, and thick, almost fleshy in feel.  Specimens in Jackson Park seem to grown no taller than about 3 feet, though the manuals suggest otherwise.

1-6 feet, sun or partial sun.
