Large Rough Hawksbeard

Crepis biennis

This flower looks much like the common dandelion, with a yellow flower of similar structure, consisting entirely of ray florets with no disk florets, and a base of green, deeply lobed leaves. However, dandelions never produce many buds on the main stem as does this plant (see image at left).  The leaves of this specimen are triangular, not as spiky as those of a related species, Smooth Hawksbeard (C. capillaris), which has very pointed "teeth."

1-4 feet, sun.
