Yellow Iris

Iris pseudacorus

Unlike the native Larger Blue Flag, Iris versicolor, the Yellow Iris is an alien imported from Eurasia that has naturalized widely.  The falls (sepals) are broad; the standards are short.  There is also a white variant, which is also seen in Jackson Park (image below). Leaves are long, fairly broad (ca. 2 inches) and sword-like.

1-3 feet, sun. Aquatic or marshy ground.

Spring-Summer (May-July).

The white variant, Iris pseudacorus 'alba.'
