Lamb's-quarters  (Pigweed)

Chenopodium album

This weed, quick to spring up in disturbed ground, has small, inconspicuous, green flowers that turn into small green-and-white spherical seed clusters (see image below). The plant produces a tall, erect, branching stem if undisturbed, or can grow laterally if thwarted. Lower leaves are smooth, green, and roughly diamond-shaped with irregular teeth or indentations, and if gathered are quite delicious to eat if cooked (stems, however, are tough!). Leaves sometimes are marked with a bumpy purple growth (does not affect their edibility).

1-3 feet, sun - partial sun.

Summer-Autumn (June-October).

The seed clusters.  Leaves high on the stems are simply lance-shaped, not toothed or indented like lower leaves.
