Swamp Loosestrife

Decodon verticillatus

This semi-aquatic native plant produces long stems, often arching and only sparingly branched, along which appear pink-purple flowers of 5 petals, about 1 inch across. Leaves along the stems are large near the base (up to 8 inches), are opposite in pairs or threes, and are ovate, pointed toward the tip and base, and smooth-edged. It is readily distinguished from other loosestrifes by its arching growth habit and penchant for growing submerged in the water.

2-8 feet, sun - partial sun. In or beside water.

Summer (July-August).

Pink flowers appear in the leaf axils along the stems.
