Mertensia  (Virginia Cowslip)

Mertensia virginica

Floral stems bear clusters of clear blue bells opening from a long tube; they often turn to, or are tinged with, pink. The buds are dark purple as they break ground in early spring.  Leaves are smooth, ovate, pointed at both ends, untoothed.

1-2 feet, partial shade.

Spring (April-Mayt).

Sometimes forms large colonies.
