Sullivant's Milkweed (Prairie Milkweed)

Asclepias sullivanti

Similar to the Common Milkweed, A. syriaca, this species has leaves that tend to align along the stem rather than sagging down, and which have rounded, not pointed, tips with a small spike. They are also uniformly smooth, unlike the somewhat fuzzy underleaf of Common Milkweed.  Seed pods also differ; those of Sullivant's Milkweed are smooth on the outside, lacking the many small spikes of the pods of Common Milkweed.

2-5 feet, sun - partial sun.

Summer (June-July).
