New Jersey Tea

Ceanothus americanus

This shrubby plant sends up numerous vertical shoots that produce clusters of very small white flowers; clusters usually about 1 inch or more wide and about 2 inches long.  Leaves on short petioles occur the length of the stems; they are ovate-pointed, with no or barely noticeable serrations on the edge, up to 3 inches long and 2 inches wide.

Summer (June-July).

  Seed heads shortly after flowers bloom out.
