Enchanter's Nightshade

Circaea quadrisulcata

This woodland plant produces thin stalks bearing numerous tiny, two-petaled white flowers, each on a short petiole. After blooming, they turn to a small, hairy, spherical seed capsule which can adhere to clothing or animal fur  to distribute seed.  Leaves toward the base of the plant are ovate- pointed, on petioles of up to 1 inch, and may have irregular small teeth on the margins.


1-2 feet, shade.


Summer (June-August).

  Inconspicuous flower stalks rise above the leaves.
