Blue Phlox  (Woodland Phlox)

Phlox divaricata laphamii

The lavendar-blue (sometimes white; rarely purplish) blossoms of this plant are a beautiful sight in spring, especially because the plant tends to form colonies through its spreading root system.  Each flower of 5 petals with rounded tips is about 1 inch across. Leaves are lanceolate with a pointed tip, and attach in opposite pairs directly to the stems.  Stems and leaves are fuzzy or slightly hairy.
