Deptford Pink

Dianthus armeria

This plant, an annual or biennial, sends up thin, stiff stalks, usually unbranched except near the top where a few small clusters of the pink flowers appear.  The flowers of five petals are small (less than 1/2 inch across), bright pink with tiny white splotches, and the rounded tip of each petal is irregularly notched. Leaves are very narrow (linear), reaching several inches in length but only about 1/8 inch wide.

Under 2 feet, sun - partial sun.

Summer (June-July).

Preferring semi-disturbed habitats where competition is limited, it often throws enough seed to establish small colonies.
