Pennsylvania Smartweed

Persicaria pensylvanica  (formerly Polygonum pensylvanicum)

This much-branched Smartweed has reddish stem joints, without fringes on the sheaths at the joints, and ovate-lanceolate leaves that are smooth and shiny, with smooth (untoothed) edges.  The flowers, small and bright pink or white, appear on crowded spikes about 1-1/2 inches long.


1-2 feet, sun - partial sun.


Summer-Autumn(June-October).

  Note the pinkish joints and sheaths.
