Round-Fruited St. Johnswort

Hypericum sphaerocarpum

This attractive member of the St. Johnswort genus is fairly compact, with dense flowering heads whose petals are completely unspotted (unlike Common St. Johnswort, which has black spots on the edges of the petals).  Leaves in opposite pairs are sessile, untoothed, and ovate, up to 2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide, and have no spots or visible glands on the underside.

Distinctive are the seeds that form after flowering, which are globular, unlike other Hypericum spp., which are pointed with three or five segments.

1-2 feet, sun - partial sun.

Summer (July-August).

Leaves in opposite pairs along the stem; they show no spots on either side.

7 July 2021.
