Prairie Sundrops

Oenothera pilosella

A native perennial, this plant produces clusters of cylindrical buds that open as brilliant yellow flowers in the morning, to be replaced next day by another. Flowers have four petals, are up to 2 inches across, and have prominent stamens.  Leaves (hardly visible in these photos because of competing plants) are alternate, sessile, ovate-pointed, about 3 inches long by 1 inch wide, untoothed on the edges (entire), and covered with fine hairs, as are the stems.

1-2 feet, sun - partial sun.
