Water-Willow

Justicia americana  (Dianthera americana)

This plant grows in or beside shallow, still water. It puts up pairs of long, narrow, leaves with smooth edges--up to 8 inches long, but not more than 1 inch wide. Rising from the leaf axils come leafless stems supporting a cluster of small lobed flowers, each 1/2 inch or more across, of purple or white with dark purple markings. A cluster of flowers may be 1-1/4 inches wide.



1-3 feet, sun - partial sun. In or beside water.



Summer-Autumn (June-October).
