Toadshade

Trillium sessile

Like all trilliums, this plant has all major components in threes. The brownish-red flower appears immediately above a whorl of three broad leaves, with no stalk. Moreover, the three petals and three sepals remain upright. The plant is rather inconspicuous because of its small, dark flower and low height.

1 foot; shade-partial shade.
